Fan I Am: Hyperreal Fandom and Parody
Here it is (finally), the lecture given on Inspector Spacetime and fandom at NIU this past Friday.
Although he got a few things wrong (the second clip was from Christmas, not Chaos theory; amount of gay Inspectors, etc.) this was very interesting. Sometimes I feel like people get the fandom wrong- if only because there are so many interpretations within Inspector Spacetime and we are constantly changing and adjusting and adding and removing what is canon -but this felt pretty on point.
I never usually do text posts, most of them are just basic posts whenever I do a poster design.
But I thought I would share this picture that the awesome Travis Richey sent me earlier today. If you can’t quite decipher it from the pictures, its of the actual Inspector Spacetime signing a few of my posters.
I am very excited to receive them in the post.Because I am getting a few delivered, I am going to be giving some away in a competition in the new year. So keep checking my blog, twitter and this blog for details in a couple of weeks.
So just to reiterate, Inspector Spacetime got hold of a few of my posters, signed them and is sending some back to me for me to give away.
Im psyched.

Cue laughing from me. Because that friend’s been making fun of me for obsessing about it while he thought it was a real actual show. Like I was making a fan radio play instead of a hopefully-canon-if-people-accept-it one and stuff.
I consider this a success. For both fake fandoms in general and especially Inspector Spacetime. And soon he shall be converted and become a member of the Inspectrum.
