Fun fact: My url comes from Anikele.
It means "trusted information/informant". Although to explain why this is my url will take much longer than necessary. It involves naming traditions in my conworld.

The most beautiful language on Earth

iksarra:

Just been listening to some Finnish music. I don’t know what it is, but whenever I hear this language something strikes the very core of my heart and I feel like I NEED to be in Finland, speaking this amazing language which is, in fact, too beautiful for words to describe. I think I’m in love all over again!

I don’t care what anyone says, this language is the best language ever to have existed, that exists and will ever exist. Total Euphoria when I listen to it!

I do not have enough “this”es to show how much I agree with this statement.

Minä rakastan suomi. ♥

I’ve made a decision…

…I’m going All Finnish All the Time. Well, as much as I can, anyway. There are things that I need to do in English but I am going to try to cram as much Finnish as I can into my day anyway.

Five semesters until my planned study abroad and I’m still a beginner. I’ve been floundering for way too long. (I started trying to learn it over a year ago. This is not acceptable.) Let’s do this.

Finnish Language Facts!

findingfinlandia:

These are written in front of my Finnish notebook.

  • 92-93% of the Finnish population speaks Finnish.
  • Finnish is part of the Finno-Ugric language group, and is notable for not being similar to any other spoken language, with the exception of Estonian.
  • Modern Finnish was only standardized as a written language in the 19th Century.
  • There are two distinct dialects of Finnish (with many sub-dialects), although the differences are often minor.  Western Finnish has more of a Swedish influence, while Eastern has been more affected by their proximity to Russia.
  • Finnish is a phonetic language, meaning there is a one-to-one letter/sound correspondence.
  • No silent letters!
  • The stress is placed on the first syllable of each word.
  • ‘Y’ is a vowel!  (I love it when ‘y’ acts as a vowel in any language—I guess that’s strange.)

YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED I AM THAT THERE IS ACTUALLY A LANGUAGE THAT SPLITS UP ITS LOCATIVE CASE INTO SIX DIFFERENT LOCATIVE CASES BECAUSE THAT IS ABSOLUTELY HOW IT SHOULD BE
AND OMG ESSIVE CASES WHAT ARE ESSIVE CASES I DIDN’T KNOW THESE EXISTED AND DEAR GOD THEY ARE SO BEAUTIFUL
AND THE THINGS I WANT TO DO TO THOSE MARGINAL CASES
WELL
I DON’T THINK IT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE FOR ME TO GO ANY FURTHER

Oh look, someone else feels the same as me about Finnish.
FIFTEEN CASES ISN’T A PROBLEM, GUYS. IT’S AWESOME AND INTERESTING AND I LOVE IT AND WANT TO KNOW IT.
